This highly structured course is suitable for those who have experience of playing Bridge informally but wish to make a serious study of the ACOL bidding system as applied to the game of Duplicate Bridge. Because it starts from the very beginning, the course is also suitable for those with no experience of Bridge in any form; for such members extra help is available.

In addition to laying a thorough groundwork on which playing skills are built, emphasis is put on correct use of equipment and on the etiquette associated with the game. The course consists of tutorials, demonstrations, reading material, quizzes and plenty of supervised practice play. It is not necessary to have a Bridge partner to attend this course.

Members who complete this course are guaranteed a place on the follow-up “Improve Your Duplicate Bridge” course.  After Easter
they will be eligible to join the Beginners Bridge Play group if they wish.

Note that the normal method of distribution for course notes, quizzes and other course associated material is via the internet. It is hoped that most of those that are not “on-line” are able to be reached via a friend who is willing to print and share the materials.

Entry Requirements for Introduction to Duplicate Bridge:

Group members are expected to be familiar with a pack of playing cards. It is helpful if they have played some sort of whist game and are expected to be familiar with the terms “trick” and “trump”. These are the only requirements. At present there is
no restriction on the number of times this course may be repeated.
