Bridge - 03 - Chatty Bridge - Chicago Scoring

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: Weekly on Wednesday afternoons 2:00 pm-4:00 pm
Venue: CMH - Crookham Memorial Hall

Chatty Bridge meets most Wednesday afternoons from 14.00 - 16.00 pm at Crookham Memorial Hall, apart from the first Wednesday of every month, when the hall is used by another U3A Group. It is a natural follow on from “Introduction to Duplicate Bridge” and “Beginner’s Bridge Play”, where members have developed an understanding of the ACOL system.

There is no tuition, just the opportunity to meet on a regular basis to practice Bridge skills.  During each 2h session tables of four will play Chicago bridge in a friendly environment where members can, should they wish, chat through the moves to consolidate and revise what they have already learned. The group is suitable for those who are reluctant to join the more experienced and competitive duplicate bridge groups, which usually require partners and both talking and reliance on notes is discouraged.

If a table has an odd number, members can take it in turns to play. The group is currently limited to 32 members/8 tables with no restriction on the length of time someone can be a member.

Entry Requirements for Chatty Bridge:

The group is open to anyone who plays ACOL Bridge and is prepared to bid and play according to the system taught by Fleet u3a.  Generally members will have attended one or more of the Fleet u3a teaching groups.  Other people will be able to join at the discretion of the group leaders.  Members do not need to have partners.  There will be a waiting list if there are too many people wanting to join.  Members will be encouraged to join one of the other playing groups when they have gained the confidence to do so.
