This is not a specific course but an opportunity for those who have attended the structured "Introduction" course and then progressed to the "Improve your Duplicate Bridge" course on a Friday and are now looking to practise their new-found skills in a relaxed club-like environment. Anyone attending this group MUST have a regular partner and have completed two years in the Friday group or have completed one year in the Friday group and been recommended by the course leader or have played ACOL bridge before and have attended some Friday sessions before being recommended by the course leader. The group is run as a duplicate bridge session and scores are sent out by email after each session.
The Monday morning “Practice” sessions provide the opportunity to practise Bridge using the bidding method taught on the Introduction to Duplicate Bridge and Improve your Duplicate Bridge and to hone playing skills under competitive conditions. A partner is necessary for this part of the course. If your regular partner is unavailable, the Group Leader will try to match you with a temporary partner.
Entry Requirements for Duplicate Bridge - Practice
To have completed at least one year in the “Improve Your Duplicate Bridge” group. Members are expected to be totally familiar with bidding boxes and also well practised in the use of the Acol bidding system as taught on the Introduction to Duplicate Bridge and Improve your Duplicate Bridge. Members are expected to enrol with their bridge partners, for whom the above requirements also apply.
Any other Fleet U3A member who already has a long-term history of using the ACOL Bridge system elsewhere and or is new to this area and who wishes to join the Fleet U3A must be able to confirm experience that would possibly preclude them from the above conditions. Anyone wanting to join this Group without a partner may be able to pick up one from the waiting list but this is not guaranteed. Each case would be judged on merit by the Group Leader and they would be offered two “taster session” with a partner who must also accept the conditions of entry as above.
