Calligraphy is the art of beautiful writing. Scripts such as Uncial meaning “inch high”, brought to England from Rome by St Augustine in 597 AD and adopted by the 3rd Century as the official script of the Christian Church, have developed over centuries. Our group includes members new to the craft and as well as the more experienced. New members are introduced to different scripts, guidance given where needed and these are applied to themed projects. Right or left handed new members are welcome. . Several scripts are taught including Uncial, Carolingian, Foundational, Gothic Cursive, French Ronde.

The group meets on the second and fourth Friday afternoons of the month apart from school holidays. The venue is the hall of the Basingbourne Baptist Church, Basingbourne Road, Fleet which has a good car park.
